Each year we make more of our own traditions or adapt old ones to suit our slightly older selves. I love to cook, craft and put up decorations over December but I also love when I'm included in other people's traditions.

Baking

Making rum balls or truffles is now a long-standing tradition. I make them for friends and work colleagues as well as just to snack on over the festive season.

Crafting

I make a new set of Christmas decorations every year to add to our already heavily-laden tree. Making some special gifts for my family is also something I aim to do each year but it depends on how much time I have up my sleeve.

Trimming the Tree

Adding the decorations to our tree is my favourite Christmas tradition and I like to make it a bit of a party. Drinks and nibblies while we find the perfect spot for all our beautiful decorations really gets me in the spirit.

Christmas Lights

Going to see everyone's amazing light displays makes me think of Christmas movies (National Lampoon's anyone?) and wandering through fairy-lit gardens in December as a child. Something about the sparkling lights gets me every time.

Now I live in Brisbane, I love going to see the City Hall Christmas tree in all its splendour.

Food

We love to have a full traditional hot dinner in the lead up to Christmas but on the day we are a prawns and fish kinda' family. There's always a ham in the fridge for snacking on and making delicious dishes with too.

We have a lot of fairly obvious traditions but what other interesting things do you do each Christmas?
