To celebrate the Act-Belong-Commit Elevate Arts 'What a Tool' project, an Open Day is being held at Midland Junction Arts Centre on Sunday 7 October showcasing the "tools of the trade" of local artists and businesses and celebrating our unique relationships with tools - past, present and future.The cross-community project presented by Mundaring Arts Centre includes exhibitions, workshops and events across a number of locations in both Mundaring and Midland with a vast array of historical tools, heritage crafts, new inventions and performances to ignite a love for the creations we make to solve the task at hand.
The fun-filled day kicks off at 11am and Midland Junction Arts Centre will be abuzz with demonstrations and workshops for people of all ages.Discover woodworking techniques, take part in a printmaking workshop, transform commonplace metal into unique items of beauty and engage with the latest 3D printing technology. Check out the full line-up here .Complementing the vibrant community atmosphere are community group and business displays, exhibitions, live music and delicious food.
Two exhibitions as part of the project are on display at Midland Junction Arts Centre, Re-imagined Railyard which brings visual arts and social history together to evoke personal memories attached to the locally treasured Midland Railway Workshops, and Remembering Tomorrow, which explores the work of the artists behind Studio Payoka. You can continue your 'What a Tool' Open Day journey with a visit to the Mundaring Arts Centre which will be hosting the Instrumental: the distinct pleasures of tools exhibition featuring contemporary artists' responses to the tools we invent to alter, decipher and transform our world. Other displays include Made in Mundaring at Mundaring District Museum, which showcases a wide range of beautifully hand-crafted and designed pieces and Armamentarium: Tools of healing at St John of God Midland Public & Private Hospitals which shares some of the instruments and equipment from the St John of God Heritage Collection used in the delivery of healthcare.
