Missed out on the Whale Time Playtime Festival? Well, don't worry, you can still celebrate the start of the whale season as the South Australian Whale Centre and partners come to you with a pop-up at Rundle Mall. You can listen to and be inspired by the experts about whale watching.
Every year southern right whales travel from Antarctica's cold waters to the Encounter Bay Marine Park. These protected coastal waters are perfect for them to mate and give birth. The very first whales for this year's season have been sighted at the Head of Bight in early May and there have been a couple of other sightings since.
The South Australian Whale Centre keeps an up-to-date online whale sighting database which is available to the public. Or you can also sign up for their newsletter and be alerted by email of any new sightings. For those on social media, you may prefer to follow them on facebook for latest updates.
At the Rundle Mall pop-up, the kids can enjoy free activities in Kondoli the Inflatable Whale while you learn about whale watching tours. The South Australian Whale Centre, Sea Shepherd Adelaide, The Big Duck Boat Tours and Fleurieu Marine Life will be at Gawler Place in Rundle Mall on Saturday the 10th of June 2017 between 10am and 3pm.
