October is the month when the Southern Right Whale migrates and calf in the waters off the coast of Hermanus. I was fortunate to watch not only whales meters from the shore line, but also the birth of a white southern right whale calf.
Hermanus has a number of spots where visitors will have the opportunity to see whales in the bay. Apart from this, one can expect markets, children events at the Market Square, Whales and Wheels Classic Car Show, a night run and many more exciting events.
A moment captured...A moment of wild wonderful beauty! (photo compliments of SocialHummingBird)
There are fees associated with each specific event, however visitors can walk through the town to capture photos for free.
Hermanus is by far one of the most historic towns in the South Africa. If you plan to spend the weekend celebrating the Whale Festival you may wish to book accommodation early. However, there are plenty of bed & breakfast options just outside of the town.
