A fun Christmas twist on We're Going on a Bear Hunt
We're Going on an Elf Chase, Martha Mumford, Laura Hughes
Mumford & Hughes. Bloomsbury Children's Books

We're Going on an Elf Chase is a lift the flap children's picture book written by Martha Mumford and illustrated by Laura Hughes. It was published by Bloomsbury Children's Books and released in hardback on 18 October 2018. It is 24 pages long and retails for between $14.99 and $19.99. It is suitable for young children.

We're Going on an Elf Chase is based loosely off the award-winning children's picture book We're Going on a Bear Hunt. We're Going on a Bear Hunt tells the story about a family and their dog who go on a bear hunt and encounter a lot of obstacles along the way. The story was based off an American folk song. We're Going on a Bear Hunt was written by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury. It was originally published by Walker Books in the United Kingdom in 1989.

We're Going on a Bear Hunt was a huge publishing success. It has won numerous awards and since its publication, it has never gone out of print and it has sold over 9 million copies worldwide. It has also spawned a large number of parodies and spin-off books that take the same premise of going on a hunt for something and mimic the original rhyming pattern featured in We're Going on a Bear Hunt to tell a new story.

We're Going on an Elf Chase will definitely feel and sound familiar to anyone who grew up reading We're Going on a Bear Hunt. What sets We're Going on an Elf Chase apart from the 1989 original is that in this version it is about a group of bunnies who set off on a journey on Christmas Eve to catch elves in a winter wonderland.

The book features gorgeous and colourful illustrations and flaps that children can lift up to find each of the elves. The language used throughout it is very similar to the poetic descriptions found in We're Going on a Bear Hunt. The bunnies slip and slide and tip toe and hop all the way from start to finish all the while avoiding polar bears and other obstacles.

We're Going on an Elf Chase was one of the most delightful Christmas themed books that I've read in years. It was vibrant and cheerful and just plain fun. If you enjoyed We're Going on a Bear Hunt as a kid and now have children of your own, I recommend this book.
