Weswal Gallery Cafe lies just on the eastern edge of Tamworth CBD but far enough up the hill to almost be a part of the virgin bushland. This place is a local hideaway brimming with hand made jewellery, glass ware, fine woodwork, accessories and gift ware. There are regular group and solo art exhibitions throughout the year, bringing contemporary Australian artists to the New England Region of New South Wales. Be warned - you might be more than tempted to buy something in the gallery shop.
We sat on the verandah of Weswal Gallery Cafe overlooking their garden full of native birds feeding out of tiny baskets while we ate our lunch. Lunch for me was a super fresh baguette with smoked salmon and I highly recommend it. They serve excellent coffee and cakes and wholesome country goodies were available for purchase too.
This would make a perfect starting or finishing point for the bush walks through Endeavour Park, linking Tamworth Botanic Gardens, Flagstaff Mountain, Oxley Lookout and Tamworth Marsupial Park (free entry and also highly recommended).
