No one is saying a bouncy castle isn't a cool thing to have at a kid's birthday party, but you have to admit that a dingo is a little more edgy. And while no one would turn their nose up at an elegant lolly buffet at a wedding, they might be more impressed with a photo-booth with live pythons and a cuddy koala.
Welcome to the world of WestOz Wildlife, a unique encounter with Australian animals and their very friendly humans. WestOz Wildlife founder Beth regularly brings her exotic menagerie to a range of destinations across Perth, from schools to nursing homes and birthday parties for all ages from firsts to twenty firsts.
If you have ever seen a koala up a tree at your local Bunnings store or library, chances are it was one of the five koalas hand reared at WestOz, the only company in Western Australia with a licence to display koalas. Recently, Beth took her furry companions to a wedding, where the bridal party and guests were given the chance to pat and hold the unusual creatures, instantly Instagrammable and totally unforgettable.
Any WestOz Wildlife event will have two keepers and a number of beautiful animals including a dingo, a koala, pythons and lizards. Hand-reared, the animals are well trained and friendly, while their humans are both knowledgeable and funny, matching their talks to their crowd (Did you know that baby koalas eat their mum's poo? My five year old now knows this, and loves repeating this delectable piece of information at the dinner table).
While a school incursion is designed to take around 50 minutes and allows children the opportunity to pat or hold each of the animals along with a fun and age-appropriate education session, a birthday party would be run over an hour (or longer if required) keeping kids entertained and offering the chance to hold and be photographed with the animals. Parties are priced at $280 for the first hour, there is no minimum or maximum number of children required, and it is suitable for all ages.
Schools who wish to host WestOz Wildlife can have up to 6 sessions in a day, with a single session costing $280 but the price reducing with each subsequent class, so four or more sessions cost only $180 each (plus GST). Students will learn about animal habitat and diet as well as touching on conservation and what it means to be endangered, and receive a small gift at the end of the session.
