The Westminster Kennel Club dates back to the 1800's and is well known for its annual dog show. The first show took place in 1877; This year the Westminster Kennel Club holds its 134th Annual Dog Show in Madison Square Garden from February 15-16.
The Westminster Kennel Club Annual Dog Show features some of the greatest and most beautiful show dogs all under one roof. The entry limit cutoff is 2,500 dogs, but there are undoubtedly many more dog owners vying for a spot for their beloved pet. The show brings together millions of dog owners and fans who are watching in person and via the internet and television. Spectators ooh and ahh the animals prance and get judged. Feel free to discuss and argue with loved ones (or strangers if you must) over which dog and breed you feel is the best.
If you cannot make it to the show, you can still watch it on television. The show has been a television event since 1948 and today you can even watch it via the internet on westminsterkennelclub.org. On Monday, February 15th, the show will air from 8-9 pm ET live on the USA Network and from 9-11 pm ET live on CNBC. During this time you can view the Toy, Hound, Non-Sporting and Herding Groups. On February 16, the second and final night of the show, you can view dogs from the Working, Sporting, and Terrier Groups in addition to the dogs in the Best in Show category from 8-11 pm ET live on USA Network.
