Fantastic shopping centre expansions opens 50 new shops
Chermside's Westfield is the largest shopping centre in the northern suburbs and now it has gone to a whole new level, literally, through the opening of a new floor of shops. This brings 50 new stores to Chermside as well as some established shops taking the opportunity to expand their floor space.
Over the last year, visitors to the Westfield at Chermside would have noticed the various construction works. In particular, and the most annoying has been the replacement of the older style tiles with new marble ones. This has taken months and the result is not very pleasing. It seemed like a lot of disruption for very little improvement. Especially given that many of the tiles are cracked, off colour or so badly fitted that gaps need to be filled in with ugly concrete.
On the other hand, the construction of the new floor occured so seamlessly, most people didn't notice anything until the new floor opened. The result is amazing with a high vaulted roof, creative decorations and palm trees that shoot up to the ceiling. When walking on the new upper level, it gives a whole new feeling to what was a fairly bland run-of-the-mill shopping centre.
Also included are many new shops. Most of the new shops are on the new floor. I am not going to list them all, but the highlights are H&M, Zara, Honey Birdette, Nike, Macpac and Swarovski.
Some shops have taken the opportunity to move to larger premises on the new floor include JB Hi-Fi and Rebel. So if you pop into Chermside and can't find your favourite store, remember to check out the new level to see if it has moved.
The new level is part of a revamp of the other sections of the shopping centre
Chermside's expansion means that there are now numerous brands that you would have had to travel to the CBD, Indooroopilly or even Garden City to buy. When you are in Chermside, don't forget to pop into the numerous other attractions in the Chermside area outside of the Westfield.
