The West Projections Festival runs from 9 to 18 August 2019 in the locations of Footscray, Seddon and West Footscray. In its 6th year, it boasts 38 locations and 10 guided tours to enjoy after dark. You can download the program HERE.
The Launch is on 9 Aug from 6.30-8.30pm at VU (Victoria University, 138 Nicholson St, Footscray) MetroWest. This is a FREE event and all are welcome. There'll be projections, tunes and more.
An intimate place-based community projection festival, projections can be viewed nightly from 6-10pm. With its theme as HOME, explore places big and small and encounter projections in various settings from tiny boxes to shopfront windows in the said suburbs. See HERE for artists and projections.
The artists involved have on display their sense of place and their own definition of home. Home can mean different things to different people. It could mean safety; shelter; a communion with family, friends, or strangers; a retreat; sanctuary; temporary; permanent; domestic confinement; domestic bliss; positive or negative.
For self-guided walking tours, download the online guide onto your smartphone, then take a set of headphones with you to stream artist interviews and sound at projection sites. The guided walking tours are ticketed ($10 per person plus booking fee) with limited spots available for departures at 6pm.
Bookings are essential and can be made HERE. Most sites are wheelchair accessible except Little NO BIG and Trocadero Art Space. Be aware that the projections may include strobe effects and bright visuals and some may be loud and repetitive.
