Life is about the journey - some roads are not always what they seem but you sure learn a great deal from them!
Experience a Real AFL adventure
There are over 18 AFL teams spread all through Australia with each team hosting events from April. Western Australia hosts two of those 18 teams namely the West Coast Eagles and the Dockers. Of course, with each team, comes a host of supporters and fans, which makes each event filled with an abundance of energy synonymous for an event of this nature.
I visited my first AFL game to witness a West Coast Eagle Win. I am not sure I am an abbot fan of the Eagles, however I do support their flying mascot, which technically makes me a West Coast Eagle supporter. My first game was vastly different to a normal AFL spectator experience. I was invited as a guest to what I could describe as a back stage pass. While I did not get to meet the players, I got to view a part of the game that the average person does not get to see – the whole event organisation. It was surreal.
The event in question was the Carlton Mid Derby, and I got up close and personal with the cup. How many fans can say they touch the Derby Cup? Needless to say, I had the chance to see the people, from camera crew to sports stars, in their "work" environment. Plus, I got to see how much work goes into an event of this nature. This was truly an amazing experience.
The West Coast Eagles is not having a very successful run this year; however I am hoping that it is just a slow start. As they say: "slow and steady wins the race"! Maybe the West Coast Eagles needs just a little more support. After all, they support many local businesses and organisations, and I feel we owe it to them to give back a little that they give out! I have designed a time table of events for this year so you can print it out and place on your fridge. For bookings you just need to visit the West Coast Eagle page and click the game you would like to see. Hopefully see you there!
