Caught in the rain with a dog?
The wide stretches of sand banks at West Beach, St Kilda, are always popular. Even on a typical Melbourne day of blustery winds and dumping rains interspersed with sunny blue skies, there are still plenty of people stopping by. The West Beach Pavillion Cafe is a surprisingly spacious cafe/bar with room enough to accommodate a range of functions.
view is simply spectacular. The cafe sits nestled on the sand and has plenty of outdoor seating on the timber decking. There is even a sheltered, heated zone suitable for dogs and their owners. The dog friendly staff are always happy to provide water for their furry customers. A great coffee stop after wearing the dogs out in the off-leash permitted area in front of the cafe.
Breakfast is served until 3pm. The smashed avocado and poached egg on Turkish bread comes with generous avocado. The hot liquid chocolate is far superior to the normal powdered cocoa fare, and is served over a flame in either a mug or cup. Devonshire Tea is also available and a welcome Winter treat.
Next door is The Zu Boardsports, a popular kiteboarding school, which contributes to the colourful scene around the cafe. Soaring neon kites, racing dogs, and the docked Spirit of Tasmania in the background. A notable St Kilda icon.
