I am a mumma to 2 little boys and love to explore the local areas of Sydney for fun, play and eateries.

Idyllic water oasis
This is my favourite outdoor spot in Penrith and it is a complete family natural reserve with lakes, water splash pad, picnic facilities and playground. It is a sprawling reserve with the main entry via Burton Street and there is ample of parking for cars and trailers.

The lush green reserve straight leads you to playground, which has swings, climbing frames, slippery slides, spring rockers, monkey swing flying fox and various apparatuses to test out your kids' balance and co-ordination skills. The play area has soft fall and is fully shaded with toilets right opposite the playground. There are many stone benches and wooden benches to sit and enjoy the kids playing. The playground area is not gated and is very close to the water splash pad. The water splash area is gentle for walking babies to enjoy little water play with parents. The splash area is fully shaded with stone benches to relax.

The walking path and cycle tracks further lead to newly installed outdoor gym equipment for adults. The gym equipment has clear instructions on usage - both written and pictorial for clear understanding.Beyond the fitness area, there is big covered barbecue area overlooking the lake. The Lake is surrounded by cycling and walking paths with shaded places to sit and enjoy the views.

The Lake is surrounded by tall gumtrees and small native bushes. The ducks and other birds often frequent the shores of the lake to eat and play in the water and if you are lucky enough you might see some ducks resting on the lush green lawns. The fountains and a little island add visual treat to the scenes. A bridge with boardwalk over the little creek brings variety to those walking or with a pram.

Such an idyllic place to spend an entire day without any added costs. Don't forget your picnic gear and breadcrumbs to feed the ducks. There is no cafe nearby so either carry a thermos with hot cuppa or bring one and just relax the non-commercial free natural family hot spot in Penrith.
