Where the cheeky camera-lovin meerkats chill
With my 9 year old niece coming to visit from Perth, it was only natural I should start looking for something cool to keep her entertained. And one of the first things that came to mind was the Werribee Open Range Zoo.
Located about half an hour's drive outside of the Melbourne CBD, this amazing zoo is certainly worth the drive.
Jump on board the Safari Bus and take a drive through the differing landscapes spotting zebras, hippos, rhinos, Mongolian horses, and my favourites - giraffes.
Grab some lunch at one of the cafes and then set off on foot to see the other animals - proud lions, impressive gorillas, cheeky meerkats and monkeys.
Werribee is a not-for-profit conservation organisation dedicated to fighting wildlife extinction through breeding and recovery programs for threatened species and by working with visitors and supporters to reduce threats facing endangered wildlife. And their efforts are paying off - especially for species such as the Addax and Przewalski's Horses.
You can help support Werribee's cause by visiting the zoo or booking one of their special experiences such as off-road or slumber safaris. Or you can become a zoo member!
