We're going on a bear hunt, Sunshine Coast! Not for real bears, silly, we don't have any of those in Australia, except maybe …. dropbears? Luckily for us, locals, dropbears only target people with strange accents, which means we, as Australians are theoretically dropbear proof!



Based on the well-loved children's picture book, written by Michael Rosen, We're Going on a Bear Hunt, bear hunts are popping up all over the world, serving as a magical distraction to children during this stressful time of the Coronavirus. Nobody knows where it all began, but one thing is certain … teddy bears and rainbows are popping up in gardens, in windows and even on fences to create captivating diversions for the littlies in our homes.



More and more communities are holding their own 'bear hunts', inviting local residents to place teddy bears and other stuffed animals in visible locations. The main idea is that while parents and children are out, getting some much-needed fresh air, children get the opportunity to bear hunt, by looking out for cute and cuddly furry friends. I've noticed from images that it's much like 'Elf on a Shelf', teddies can be 'posed' in various locations, which all adds to the fun and excitement of deciding what teddy is actually doing.



We're going on a Bear Hunt type of treasure hunt is becoming increasingly more popular during this scary time of isolation and lockdowns, as a result of the Coronavirus. Parents may well be successfully relaying the health and well-being important 'stuff' to their kids with regards hand washing, sleeping enough hours per night, eating healthier options, but addressing a child's mental health is on a totally different level.



Parents are advised, by the experts, to maintain a flexible schedule from home and to be honest and open about what is really going on, with regards the Coronavirus. Getting outdoors is also a very important mental and immunity health booster and thank goodness on the Sunshine Coast we haven't yet been put into total lockdown, so short walks are still permitted.



We're going on a Bear Hunt is a fabulous activity to connect communities with others in the neighbourhood, helping residents to feel more inclusive with and less isolated from, society. Bear Hunting is a safe outdoor activity where participants can easily manage to social distance, whilst being out and about having some good wholesome fun - bear spotting! A few teddy bear sightings will definitely help to boost the spirits of little kids … and big kids too.

The Sunshine Coast has their own 'We're going on a bear hunt' Facebook page - a fun forum to follow to assist treasure hunters with 'finding' the elusive teddies! Why not combine looking out for furry friends with looking out for some inspirational painted rocks - there might be a few kindness rocks still out and about!
