There's something for everyone to play with here

Wentworth Park is bound by Bridge Road, Wattle Street, William Henry Street and Wentworth Park Road in Ultimo. This large recreational area is a haven at the centre of the popular inner city suburbs of Ultimo, Pyrmont, Glebe and Broadway.

[ADVERT]Located on the southern section of the park is a fabulous playground, equipped with playing apparatus for children, a series of fitness stations for adults, and picnic tables, seating and water bubblers. Click here to view a schematic map of this southern area.

This area of the park is also regularly used by the local primary school as a playground for the children and school activities.

With all this action, the park and playground is a hive of activity during the week - children playing, workers lunching in the sun during their breaks and people working out at the fitness stations.

The children's play area is covered, providing shade protection from the sun for children enjoying the climbing facilities. Note that the apparatus is more appropriate for older children (aged 5 and over). For younger children, there are a few swings and a bouncing see-saw. The ground around the play equipment is covered so the children can also ride their bikes and scooters around as well.

For the fitness conscious, Wentworth Park is a great place to work out, with various fitness stations ideally spread around the park that would make the perfect workout circuit. During weekday lunch times and weekend mornings, you're likely to find group fitness classes using the fitness stations and running through their drills up and down the stairs leading to the Wattle Street Bridge.

Other Facilities at Wentworth Park

Wentworth Park also has facilities for a wide range of other activities, including playing fields for soccer and football and cricket practice nets on the northern side. There is also a sporting complex in the central area of the Park which hosts weekly greyhound racing and a monthly antiques fair. Facilities close to Wentworth Park

Wentworth Park is a short walk to the Wentworth Park Light Rail Station which is located about 50 metres further along Wattle Street. Also within walking distance is the Sydney Fish Markets (10 minutes), Broadway Shopping Centre (5 minutes) and the popular shopping strip along Glebe Point Road (7 minutes) where you'll find wonderful cafes like San Churro and La Banette.

Other nearby playgrounds and parks include Victoria Park (5 minutes) and the very popular Darling Quarter (15 minutes) where you will also find the historic Carousel and Palm Grove fountains.

A little bit of History about Wentworth Park

The area where Wentworth Park is located was originally the swampy mouth of Blackwattle Creek. In the 1800s there were various noxious industries operating around the swampy area. The pollution from these operations, which included abattoirs, left the swamp with a permanent stench which led to lobbying to have the area filled and resulting in the creation of Wentworth Park.
