Wellington Point Recreation Reserve on Redlands Coast , with its natural beauty and great facilities, is a firm favourite for many families across South East Queensland. On the western side of the peninsular is a fantastic playground that has received regular upgrades over the years, and overlooks a sheltered beach.



This playground is set beneath gigantic fig trees that are ideal for climbing and have challenged generations of children from across the region. The shade from these trees extends out over picnic tables, benches, and much of the playground equipment.



The first pieces of playground equipment, as one approaches from the car park, is a set of 3 swings that cater to younger and older children.



Beyond this, beneath the shade of a huge fig tree, is a fantastic climbing wall with windows out across the beach and Moreton Bay, and a variety of slopes and levels designed to challenge children of varying ages.



There are also small turtle wobblers in front of the climbing wall for younger children, and a range of benches in shade and sunlight for parents and caregivers to relax on.



Once children have exhausted their options for play on the climbing wall and fig trees, there is another piece of climbing equipment that adds the thrill of spinning. My kids have spent many happy hours here over the years taking turns spinning the base as the other climbed to the top to enjoy the views.



In addition to the numerous picnic tables and benches, there are a couple of little play homes installed. Set in the shade, these double as imaginative play and picnic areas.



Further along is a small but colourful labyrinth with a marine theme for younger children, set within a well-kept area of lawn that is ideal for ball games such as soccer.



Finally, the latest addition is a playground that is set under shade cloth and designed to be accessible for younger children with steps heading up to the slides. It also has a range of more challenging rope-climbing equipment and a small rock wall.



Within this area, there is also a small boat imaginative play area that is ideal for kids who love to play pirates, or sail the seven seas together!



The beach at Wellington Point is sheltered, and fabulous for swimming in at high tide. At low tide, it is a great place for kids to build sandcastles, or run around exploring the little pools full of small marine life that are left behind as the water recedes. Tides and other weather forecast information can be checked here when planning your trip. During peak periods such as summer weekends and school holidays, there is a lifeguard service present here.



Families with older children often walk out along the sandbar that appears as the tide goes out, all the way to King Island. This walk is about 800m each way, and King Island is surrounded by small sandy beaches, some mangrove trees, corals, and other marine life.
