Located in North Adelaide nestled among private residences, The Wellington Hotel offers a good range of pub food as well as 20 different types of beer and cider. In addition to their regular menu items, they also offer a few special dishes each day. Free table water is provided with each meal and service is quite efficient with our food arriving to us relatively quickly.
During our visit, we ordered Cajun Pulled Pork Burger, Prawn Korma, Fusilli and BBQ Bourbon Pork Ribs. Their Cajun Pulled Pork Burger had soft pulled pork with its flavour enhanced by the slightly spicy Cajun spices. The taste of the pork was offset by the lettuce, tomato, dill cucumber and cheese with the roast garlic mayonnaise rounding out the flavour of the burger. It was accompanied by chips that were fried to golden brown with just the right amount of salt.
The Prawn Korma was part of their weekly Curry Tuesday deal, offering the choice between two types of curries for the relatively low price of $14. As expected from a place that mostly caters to Western tastebuds, the curry is quite mild but it is still delicious for those that are used to spicy foods. The prawns were cooked to perfection with its flavour brought out by the curry gravy. The curry was served on a fluffy bed of rice accompanied by a crisp pappadum and a topping of yogurt and Boondi Raita. Boondi Raita is an Indian snack made from chickpea flour that has a sweet flavour.
Their pasta special had Fusilli (spiral pasta) that was cooked to al dente, complemented with prawns that was cooked as well as the ones in their Prawn Korma. It also had eggplant and zucchini that added a bit of bite to the dish and cherry tomatoes that added a delectable sweet element to the dish. Everything was tied together by the rich napolitana sauce. While the dish normally comes topped with shaved Parmesan cheese, we were able to order the dish without it as my father does not like the taste of the cheese.
BBQ Bourbon Pork Ribs is one of their tapas plates, entrée sized dishes that is good to share with a group of friends. The pork was cooked well enough for the meat to easily separate from the bone with the crisp exterior contrasting nicely with the meat. It was cooked in a smoked paprika BBQ sauce which enhanced the flavour of the ribs.
In addition to the '$14 Curry Tuesday' Deal, they also offer a deal on Wednesdays that allows you to have a burger of your choice with cider or Hahn Super Dry beer for only $15 from noon onwards. Ambience of the restaurant was very good, with the choice of sitting in a restaurant or bar-type setting. There is a good amount of parking space in the street next to the restaurant. We enjoyed 25% off our total bill by using an Entertainment Book voucher.
