It has recently been reported that nominations are now open and being accepted for the 2016 Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards. They are in partnership with the Wellington Community Trust and celebrate the valuable contributions made by volunteers to community groups. There is $50,000 in award monies to be won.

The nomination areas are: Wellington City Council, Porirua City Council, Kapiti Coast District Council, Upper Hutt City Council and the Hutt City Council.

The nominated categories are: Art and Culture, Education and Child/Youth Development, Health and Wellbeing, Heritage and Environment, Sport and Leisure, plus Rising Star Award for emerging or smaller groups.

The nominations will close on Tuesday 31 May 2016.

About the Awards: Wellington Airport, in partnership with the Wellington Community Trust and the five local councils joined together to recognise the valuable work carried out by the various groups in the wider Wellington Region. The focus of the awards is to reward the valuable contributions made by volunteers to their local communities.

People may nominate any non-for-profit group or organisation working in the interest of their community, including any of which they may be a member.

The Awards are designed to recognise past achievements.

The Awards do not exclude community groups who use professionals to support the delivery of services undertaken by volunteers.

Key Factors For Consideration:

Key factors considered during judging volunteers is input; utilisation of resources; innovation and creativity; effectiveness of activities; and impact with the community.
