On the corner of a sweeping bend in Kangaroo Ground, just a hop and a skip from Eltham, Wellers Hotel was first established in 1872. It also has an interesting history, having been a Cobb and Co Staging House and a residence for 60 years.
Wellers now offers entertainment, meals, drinks, business meeting rooms and a picturesque venue for weddings or special occasions. It's open seven days a week (not Monday, except on public holidays) for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
They have flexible, personalized wedding packages. All engaged couples that discuss wedding options at their venue are given free lunch or dinner (no obligation).
In addition they regularly feature live entertainment. Drawing upon local and big name entertainers, they have show-and-dinner or show-only options. I was surprised to see the list of performers. I was more surprised that my 21 year old son and girlfriend had not heard of such as Brian Cadd, Joe Camilleri, Russell Morris, James Reyne or even Daryl Braithwaite!
We went for lunch and all enjoyed our meals. There were lots of vegetarian options and as I have eaten there a few times before I didn't think I would be disappointed. I chose the entree sized pumpkin risotto. It was served with pine nuts and fresh herbs. It was as good as I have ever had and was more than enough for lunch. My friend had a delicious prawn risotto. I think these were cooked from scratch. My son had a very large and thick chicken parmigiana with salad an chips. He was able to share his chips with the little one and no one went hungry. All the meals were presented professionally.
There's plenty of time to have a stroll outside, pop on the old tram, look at the ducks and listen to the verbose frogs. For those used to drive-through or who are impatiently hungry, sit back, draw on the tablecloths and enjoy the time to relax. They currently have good lunch options. For $25 you can have a two-course meal (main and dessert or entrée and main) and a glass of wine.
Weller is an all season venue with double-sided large fireplace for the colder months and outdoor eating areas for the warmer days and nights. For stunning views, old charm character, interesting and delicious menu items and friendly service, you can't go wrong at Wellers.
