Sydney's Pub Choir
On the first Tuesday of every month, this pub choir gathers in Newtown to master and perform a new song. Their facebook page announces the song and all you need to do is turn up before 7.30 pm at Miss Peaches, pay your $10 and prepare for a good time.
Over the course of the evening, you are divided into your 'range' and then learn the parts of the song accordingly. At the end of the night, there's a great sense of accomplishment as you hear the entire song in it's melodic whole. While there is a core group of regulars, it's easy for newcomers to try it out.
Four of us went for the night they learnt Tina Turner's What's Love Got to Do With It?. The men were moved to the other side of the room for the bass range, so we sang different parts of the song. There was a break for a drink when we could compare notes on the evening so far.
The event is growing in popularity and a couple of hundred people attended the night I went, so go early if you want a seat - though you will be standing for the singing.
If you like to sing but can't commit to a regular choir, or just want a fun night out, then this is for you!
