Make a mid-week mate date
If you need a mid-week laugh, then Hotel LA is the place to hang with mates, chomp a Parma and laugh at the wins and fails of open mic stand up. Trying to make it through a work week can be excruciating, but not nearly as excruciating as 5 minutes of stand up from a misguided comic. Luckily the expert MC work by the crew at The Sit Down Comedy Club will guide you through the highs and lows of the stand-up scene.
MC Kat Davidson holds an unruly mob of open micers together
This week saw MC Kat Davidson keep it real with her tales of bogan pedigree, cruise ship folly and hilarious renditions of the passionate listeners of ABC 612. Her guardianship led the audience through a series of acts where oversharing for your chuckles either paid off or bonded a room with a collective shudder. With an eclectic line-up of first-timers and veteran performers there will always be a fast turnaround from the awkward to the side-splitting.
Hilarious comedian Simone Eclair (me!) revealing more than was necessary
Hotel LA has parking behind the venue on Petrie Tce and is conveniently located near Roma St train station. The menu satisfies the typical Aussie palate with creativity and can accommodate the gluten free and vegetarian who are often unfairly stereotyped as humourless. The intimate performance space is girded by long tables and an easily accessible bar, so roll in after work/ study/ vagrancy and settle in for the night.
Delicious comedian Emily McCool is dry, wry and heaps good.
