Howard Smith Wharves Brings Family Entertainment To The City
When moving to Brisbane from another town, it does not take long before you realise Brisbane is an amazing city with so much entertainment and weekend activities that no one could ever say boredom was an issue.
Located in the heart of our city, the Howard Smith Wharves is one of Brisbane's newest riverside destinations where a revitalised 3.4-hectare site has been transformed into a waterfront entertainment area of riverfront restaurants including Stanley's Restaurant & Bar, The Fantauzzo Hotel, Felons Brewing Co, Mr Percival's, GRECA Greek Taverna, ARC Dining and Wine Bar as well as underground parking for 350 vehicles, Howards Hall for Exhibitions and open grassed areas markets and festivals.

You might ask, where did the name Howard Smith Wharves originate from? William Howard Smith and Sons Pty Ltd was a shipping company established by Captain Howard Smith in Melbourne in 1854. The company had business in freight and passenger pursuits up and down the coast of Australia and from 1880 leased and occupied a commercial wharf on the Town Reach. The wharves were originally built as a project to provide locals with relief work during the depression. After the Port moved downstream, a rare example of early Brisbane infrastructure remained. Redevelopment options were considered but rejected. In 2015 a new plan was approved and the site opened in late 2018.
The historic wharf buildings have been carefully redesigned into restaurants and cafes and with a remarkable view of the Story Bridge and City Skyline, the Howard Smith Wharves is considered a premium riverfront destination for any event. Every Saturday and Sunday from 1.00 to 8.00pm, you are entertained with live music, food trucks, drink carts, a petting zoo (from 1.00 to 6.00pm) for the children and lawn games. It is the perfect place to be outdoors with the family. Pets are welcome as well. For information on the music line-ups each week, you can go to the events website.
