If you take your pasta seriously, head along to where you can learn to make your own gnocci. The weekend is held as part of the Sydney Italian Festival on the 23-24 May 2009 at the North Sydney Community Centre - a short vespa ride from the city or accessible by public transport.

“A Tavola” is Italian for “at the table” and that’s where you’ll be when you learn to speak Italian, cook Italian and appreciate Italian. There are one day or two day weekend packages available and the course caters to all levels of Italian language competence.

It’s designed to be a cultural immersion and participants will learn the art of coffee, food through art and how to select the best Italian restaurant.

For those that want to day-dream about the white capped Italian Alps, there is the option of a meditation session. Or if you fancy a downward dog, you can participate in a short yoga class.

Italian language teachers and trainers will be on hand and by the time you go home, you are likely to be full, relaxed and able to say a bit more than “Ciao”.

It's not cheap at $150 for a day, or $250 for an entire weekend (and WeekendNotes does not usually cover such expensive events), however the event is so unique it's well worth it. You can book your place on this page.
