These are strange times we are living in, and I can't help but be bombarded with Corona-this, COVID-that, and whilst being aware of the news is important, it can easily feel overwhelming and turn your weekend into a one-stop stress-fest!
Whilst this is definitely not a global event to be celebrated, there can almost always be a silver lining pulled even from the most challenging of circumstances. For instance, right now we are required to stay home, and to only go out for essentials to keep the community safe. So why not use this mandatory downtime to work on the most important relationship you will ever have- the one you have with yourself.
Finding things to do whilst you are at home doesn't have to be overly difficult, but I totally understand if you are getting a bit stuck with projects and feeling stir-crazy. Here are some ideas of things both practical things and self-care related things you can do to make this pandemic a little more bearable:
Practical things to do:
De-clutter your house. Get into those old cupboards and finally pull out the rubbish you've been holding on to. Recycle it, re-purpose it, or throw it away if all other options are exhausted.
Clear a space in your garden and start a veggie patch. It's much easier than you think and it is very enjoyable watching your plants grow and getting to harvest tasty vegetables during the year.
Rearrange your furniture. I'm notorious for changing the layout of my bedroom at least once a year, and a change in your space can bring a change to your frame of mind. Experiment with moving things around to see that you like!
Clean the inside and outside of your car. Let me tell you, I am notorious for neglecting the inside of my car, but with all this time on my hands over the weekends now, it feels really good to finally get some of those bottom-of-the-list projects ticked off.
Self Care related things to do:
Have a long relaxing bath (with or without a glass of wine)
Sit outside and read a book. I think it's very likely that we will become more and more stir-crazy as the winter comes and we spend most of our time inside, so when the weather is nice, try to spend time outside!
Do a face mask/hair mask/give yourself a manicure. Seeing as most places for pampering will be closed for the foreseeable future, give yourself a little spruce up to feel refreshed!
Learn to make a new dish/bake a new treat. This is a great time to develop new skills, and why not have that be something you can reap the delicious rewards of!
Find some free online courses to learn something new that you've always been interested in.
Write a letter to a friend.
Download an app and learn a new language.
I'm sure there are plenty more things that you can do at home, but I hope these ideas have sparked some inspiration for you to find the things that make you feel enriched during this difficult time.
Please stay safe, and stay home- you can save lives by doing so!
