In recent years, Sydney has become a popular destination for couples from overseas and even within Australia to hold their wedding ceremonies due to the beautiful city landscape, iconic buildings and parks. However, charges do apply for most of the venues around Sydney especially major parks and gardens with picturesque backdrop of Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

After much research and visit to some venues in preparation for a friend's wedding from overseas, I found out that there are still some really beautiful venues in Sydney with million-dollar views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge for small scale wedding ceremony without having to pay any council fee to hire the venues. These venues are free for photography and wedding ceremony for a small group of people (usually less than 60 people).

1. Jeffery Street Wharf, Kirribilli
Jeffrey St, Kirribilli NSW 2061

This would be my top most recommendation (testimonial) for couples who wish to have panoramic views of both the famous Opera House and Harbour bridge in their wedding photos. I was once there to say "I Do" and if I get to choose again, I would still choose this vantage point. There is a small patch of land with trees and shade where you can set up a small table for signing of marriage registry and it can accommodate about 50-60 people. Click here to see sample photos.

2. Clark Park, North Sydney
Lavender St, North Sydney NSW 2061

Clark Park is another beautiful venue which overlooks Harbour Bridge. The atmosphere here is peaceful, quiet and calm since it is away from the city crowd. There is a path which leads to the waters and eventually to the back of Luna Park if you go towards the bridge direction. For more sample wedding photos, click here .

3. Luna Park Boardwalk
1 Olympic Drive, Milsons Point

Constructed beneath the Sydney Harbour bridge, this nostalgic amusement park is every child's attraction. However it also housed a popular event venue - Crystal Palace for function like wedding reception. On the exterior, this park has a spectacular view of the Opera house, Lavender Bay and Balmain. Though couples are free to have their wedding ceremony at the boardwalk, I would not recommend it as the area is usually busy with tourist crowds. Having said that, couples can consider having the photos taken here as the venue does have a beautiful background. Click here to view sample photos.

4. Chinaman's Beach, Mosman
McLean Cresent, Mosman NSW 2088

It's a nice and quiet beach well inside Middle Harbour, just a close walk from Balmoral beach which is more popular but busy. There's also a large, flat, grassy park with trees and shades near to the beach.

There are a few more excellent venues further away from Sydney which are free of charge, for example:

George Kendall Riverside Park - Spurway Street, Ermington
Free for under 50 people.

**
Shelly Park (beachside location) - Ewos Parade, Cronulla**
Free for under 100 people

**
Cabravale Park - Railway Parade, Cabramatta**
Free for ceremonies or photography
