The WEA has been the leader in adult education for over 100 years. Located in Angas St, near Hutt St, the WEA is home to tutors and students alike.
Each year the WEA offers over 1,500 different courses and also incorporates WEA Travel. Maybe you would like to learn a new skill or language, brush up on your computer skills to make you more employable, or maybe you have always wanted to play the guitar or try yoga. You can do a course in health, art & craft, cooking, music, history, social media skills, business, exercise or self-development. All these and many more are offered. There are no tests or exams. Anyone over 15 is welcome to attend.
Most courses are held at the WEA but some are held off-site or online. Lately, some courses, which are suitable, have been offered by Zoom video conferencing.
A new idea that the WEA is pioneering is the introduction of "WEA Shorts." These are hour-long introductory sessions and only cost $10.
If you don't want to commit yourself to a longer course of weeks or months only to find that it's not your cup of tea then a Shorts course may be just the thing. You could sample such diverse offerings as "Understanding superannuation", "French for fun and travel" or "Dress up supermarket flowers". For only $10 and an hour of your time, you can't go wrong.
New courses are added every year, so there is always something to tempt those with a life long thirst for learning. Keeping up with new technology and being able to connect with others is vital in these changing times.
