When your goal is globe trotting, transportation can become a major expense. Even if you are taking the countries one by one, you will still need a lot of money to travel from one place to another. Added to the accommodation costs and to other expenses, transport fees can become a real obstacle, and many of those who dream of traveling around the world give up such a daring adventure for fear they will not have enough money to accomplish it. However, you should know there are several methods you can use (even combine them if you need) in order to save money on transportation.
Carpooling and hitch hiking

There is no secret here. People have been sharing cars for ages in order to slit gas costs. The only disadvantage carpooling presents is that you have to plan in advance, check with your friends and fellow travelers if they are heading in the same direction. However, the internet enlarges your array of opportunities as you can use specialized websites in order to make the necessary arrangements.
A word of advice here: remain flexible. Even if your original plan included visiting Lyon straight after touring Paris, jump on the opportunity that takes you to Bordeaux. You set off for an adventure, right?
Moving other people's vehicles
Nowadays people move from one place to another, be it for business or for personal reasons. Sometimes they need to transport their car, but they are forced to catch a flight in order to reach the new destination on time. This is the moment when your help is needed. Expand your network of contact, look for ads and offer your services on forums, and again... remain flexible.
Working on a yacht or cruise ship
You don't need specialized skills to work on a cruise ship. These companies are always searching for all sorts of personnel: maids, kitchen aids and cooks, bartenders and waiters, etc. Although it might involve a lot of work, think that it can be your free ticket to the other end of the world.
Flying low cost
This is a no brainer. Low cost flights are the globetrotters' favorite means of transport. If you plan in advance, you can find really good prices.
