Because we need light in this time of darkness

Like moths, we are attracted to light. Just think of how we warm towards the sun on a cold winter's day and how we feel cosy and snug before a crackling fireplace. Think of the joy and awe we feel when fireworks explode above us or when our Christmas trees glow with lights or when we gaze upon the bright full moon.

During this dark time that we are living in, it's important that we shine a light on the world around us-literally. With the dark days of winter approaching and with the coronavirus pandemic still keeping us all in lockdown, why not light up your homes to make them feel more snug and cosy and cheerful and just a little bit festive? Here are some ideas to get you started.

1. String decorative lights around your home and garden.

2. Decorate your garden/lawn with solar lights.

3. Hang up lanterns or fairy lights in your trees.

5. Light candles in your home.
Practice the Danish way of hygge (pronounced 'heurgha') and make your home a cosy, peaceful, candle-lit sanctuary this winter.

6. Light up your fireplace.
ANZAC Day is over which means it's socially acceptable for Canberrans to put on their heaters and light up their fireplaces!

And finally,

8. Put up your Christmas tree and decorate it with lights.
It'll be Christmas in July soon, so why not put up your Christmas tree and make your home look extra festive this winter?

May we all continue to shine on during this time of coronavirus.

From the Gospel of John 1:5"
