During the winter school holidays it is tempting to stay indoors, nice and warm, and not be bothered with battling the weather to take the kids out for the day. However if you succumb to this temptation you risk missing out on all the fun of the Way Out West Festival at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

Now in its sixth year, the WOW Festival offers tonnes of creative activities for children aged 0 - 12 years. This year the festival is using the theme of journeys and discovery to bring together an amazing mix of artists, performers and all-round creative types. Over the four day festival there are over 25 different workshops, performances and activities to try.

With so much on offer children will be sure to find something they love at this years festival. The line up will include art workshops, theatre performances, music and dance, film, robotics and technology, play spaces as well as poetry, reading, writing and literature workshops.

So before you prepare for winter hibernation perhaps I can tempt you out of the house with some of these activities?

Inspired by everyday life in Africa, the Jamestown Collective transforms everyday objects into a vibrant performance of percussion, acrobatics and dance in this theatre show. It's all about the rhythm and dance with instruments made from recycled materials. This performance runs for 45 minutes and is suitable for children aged from 2 - 12 years. Bookings are required. Children aged 4 - 12 can also join in the fun at a Junk Percussion Workshop by Jamestown Collective, to be held on 13th July at 12pm and 2pm.

Russ the Story Bus

No ordinary bus, Russ the Story Bus is covered with colourful illustrations and has a belly full of books. Children of all ages can browse the latest childrens books inside or swap a pre-loved book for a new favourite. Or you can read books from the library in an outdoor bean bag lounge.
