I'm a Melbourne girl, born and bred, and new resident of Geelong. Fantabulous adventures await as I explore my gorgeous new city and the stunning Surf Coast. But don’t worry—I’ll be crossing the bridge regularly to get my Melbourne fix.
Event:
Anglesea comes alive with music, food, love & sustainability
Live music. Craft beer and boutique wine. Organic produce. Yoga, family activities, meditation. All this comes together in perfect harmony at the Surf Coast's newest music festival, Waves 2 Woods, in the idyllic hamlet of Anglesea on 21 November 2015. The festival will focus on sustainability, making a difference, empowering one another to think about a green future, and making a positive impact on our lives and local community.

An impressive line up of indie folk musicians, with a little bit of pop and electric thrown in, will join special guests including conservationists, yoga masters, foodies and surfers, to bring you a day filled with positivity, fun, and a shared message about how to live greener, healthier lives and more sustainable lives.

Waves 2 Woods
Anglesea Green will be awash with music, food and fun on 21 November.

The headline acts include HOWQUA, with his raw and honest lyrics and soul-baring music, the deep toned voice of singer-songwriter Oscar Lush and folk-pop artist Ariela Jacobs with her heart-touchingly beautiful words and music. Jim Lawrie will be doing a solo electric performance, Al Parkinson will keep you amused and entertained with her soulful voice and accompanying ukulele, and the dreamy, haunted tones of Eliza Hull will enthrall and capture you. And local indie-folk-rock band Children of the Sun (their hometown of Aireys Inlet just a short, curvy drive away along the stunning Great Ocean Road) will be performing their original and unique tunes to delight their devoted fans and new listeners alike.

Special guests will include Matt Wicking, facilitator at The Fellowship Program at the Centre for Sustainability Leadership, Tooni Mahto, a marine conservationist who has worked in the UK and now Australia, and surfer, performance coach and movement specialist Mitch Barrow. Surf coast native and founder of Eat Local Month Sarah Bolus will also be there to promote sustainable living, growing and eating local and living the 'good life'.

There'll be food vendors hawking delectable goodies made with sustainable meat and organic seasonal produce, so bring your own picnic blanket and refillable water bottles and eat till your belly's content. A craft beer or a glass of boutique vineyard wine from the bar will be the finishing touch to while away the afternoon while you soak up the music and relaxed atmosphere. The kids aren't forgotten either, with plenty of happenings for the little tikes to keep them occupied—face painting, a pop-up playground, and for the mini home gardeners in the making, a chance to paint their own planter box, thanks to the local McGains Nursery, Cafe and Foodstore.

The fun and festivities kick off at 1pm, but to start your day with positive vibes and fill yourself with energy, you can take part in some of the feel good activities that are planned for the morning. Taking place in Coogoorah Park in Anglesea (just a short twist around the river into the lush bushland) there'll be meditation with Mitch Barrow and yoga with Sally Louise. For those wanting to step their yoga up a notch, Sally Louise will also take a stand-up paddle boarding yoga class. Water, yoga, and views of the bush—the perfect way to start this day of music, positivity and fun. Tickets must be purchased separately for these activities, with all proceeds going to charities focused on the environment, childhood development and depression.

The passionate locals behind this fantabulous celebration of music and sustainability, Stacey Doak and Alex Boston, have also created the campaign #smallchanges, which encourages everyone to think about a greener future, by just making a few small tweaks to their lives. So while you're lounging about on your picnic blanket listening to the cool tunes, knocking back a craft beer or two and downing some delicious organic delights, you'll also be doing something for the greater good. And what could be sweeter than that?

And what better location for all this goodness and fun and empowerment than Anglesea, with its relaxed beachside vibes and small-town feel. The action will be radiating from the Anglesea Green, just next to the Anglesea Bowls Club on Cameron Road. The Anglesea surf beach is a short stroll in one direction, and the bushland along the Anglesea River is accessible by the gravel walking trail in the other direction. It's a perfect mixture of, well, waves and woods, and will be certain to get the positive energy flowing as the festivities kick on in to the early evening.
