Watsons Bay

Home > Sydney > Outdoor
Published September 12th 2008
This time of the year can be great for picnics when the sun comes out. It's not too hot and the flies have yet to make an appearance.

This Saturday looks like it's going to be a cracker, 25 degrees and fine.

One of the best places in Sydney for a picnic is Watsons Bay, found on the western side of the South Head peninsula.

With Robertson Park to lounge around in, amazing viewsacross to the Bridge and City, and some super fish & chips from Doyles, it's hard to beat.

To work up and appetite you should visit the Gap, a cliff on the Eastern side of the peninsula, which is just up the hill from Robertson Park and Doyles. Sadly around 20 to 30 people commit suicide by leaping off of the Gap every year. You can also keep going south past Signal Station and Macquarie Lighthouse.

Another walking track takes you north from the wharf, past the nude beach at Lady Bay and up to South Head and the Hornsby Lighthouse.

To get there you can drive down Oxford St and Old South Head Road or you can catch a ferry from Circular Quay.

Why? A sunny afternoon, spectacular views, and great food.
