Recharge your batteries at this nature wonderland retreat
Nestled amongst 33 acres of complete tranquillity, archetypal Australian bushland and sitting on four natural springs is Waterfall Springs Retreat. This luxurious boutique-style accommodation is also a wildlife sanctuary dedicated to saving endangered Brush-Tailed and Yellow-Footed Rock Wallabies. This piece of heaven on earth is exceptionally delightful, cosy and peaceful.
Owners Steven and Alana have created an exemplary romantic adult-only city escape that makes you feel like you are a million miles away from civilisation; it is hard to believe that this piece of serenity is only a 30-minute drive from Gosford, Central Coast of New South Wales and around a 90-minute drive from Sydney. It is also a gateway to the Hunter Valley on the Tourist Route 33.
Steve and Alana both went above and beyond to welcome us to their idyllic nature getaway retreat. Their attention to detail wowed us. They made us feel welcomed and we certainly enjoyed our chats with both. We were also pleasantly surprised by how clean everything was and well-maintained.
The tranquil Dam that overlooks the Retreat's surrounding bushland
This nature retreat getaway houses only four suites with an eight-person limit, making it the perfect secluded and intimate escape with your other half. If you do want to take the little ones with you, children will be only permitted to stay if the entire retreat (all four suites) is booked, therefore you and your family will be the only guests staying at the beautiful Waterfalls Springs Retreat.
The suites are located in one "house" with a shared kitchen, dining and lounge area. All four Suites are private and include their own ensuites and amenities.
The communal kitchen, dining area, lounge area, hallway to the three other Suites, and the outdoor barbeque area
The Waterfall Springs Retreat was such an enchanting, memorable and unique experience. It was the ultimate romantic and private getaway, which awakened our senses and left us wanting to return for more.
It is the perfect getaway for those couples who want to relax and not socialise much with other guests. It also makes for a "pick-me-up" or/and de-stress getaway as well as bringing you and your other half closer.
Each suite opens up to the great outdoors with views of lush bushland and kangaroos from romantic spas and freestanding bathtubs. There is also a private outdoor sitting area complete with tables, chairs and lounge, making it perfect for enjoying the sunrise/sunset and watching local wildlife laze around in the open grass spaces.
Kangaroos & wallabies can be seen lazing around outside the Suites
All suites have their own ensuites, plush bathrobes, double vanity, separate shower, eco-friendly toiletries, hairdryer, leather lounge (except for the Deluxe Queen Bath Suite and Superior King Spa Suite), and air-conditioning, free WI-FI, Smart TV with Netflix/Free to Air, Foxtel, and Sound System.
Mood lighting, mini-fridge, kettle, toaster, and daily room cleaning upon request are also included in each suite. All suites also include a generous range of breakfast provisions including cereals, pancake mix, fruit, toast, yoghurt, and more for each morning of your stay.
The modern & clean bathroom in the Superior King Bath Suite
We stayed in the Superior King Bath Suite. This room was undoubtedly an indulgent experience and faced in a westerly direction overlooking the dam and green lawns. Another beauty about this room is it sits away from the other three rooms, adding further privacy and seclusion.
The Superior King Spa Suite is an intimate and sophisticated suite which features a romantic corner spa that opens up to the surrounding natural environment.
The Deluxe King Bath Suite is spacious and charming and features a bi-fold door opening up to an outdoor area to enhance your garden views further. The Deluxe Queen Bath Suite is an intimate and cosy suite that contains all the luxuries just like the other suites, including the two-person freestanding bath that overlooks lush lawns and grazing kangaroos near-by.
Property Facilities/ Features:
There is an outdoor swimming pool which overlooks spectacular native bushland and the open lawns, where you can watch kangaroos graze and laze around.
Bushwalking is one activity you must do when you stay at the retreat. Exploring the 4kms of bush tracks is breathtaking. The walks take you through a diverse range of natural environments of pure wilderness.
There is also a boardwalk which leads to stunning waterfalls and the clifftop day bed. The boardwalk features a few steep stairs and a ladder to the top viewing platform where you can admire the gushing falls up close.
Bushwalking at the retreat is truly spectacular. The aromas and sounds of nature awaken your senses. If you are lucky enough (like my partner and me) to experience the entire retreat during the day without the other three couples, you get to feel like you are the only two people in the world surrounded with nothing but nature.
The Barbeque Area makes the perfect spot to cook up a feast, socialise with other guests, enjoy the aromas and tranquillity of the Australian bush, or enjoy a generous and delicious cooked barbeque feast cooked by Steve! The barbeque area also makes for the perfect spot to stargaze and enjoy the fire pit on cooler nights.
The Retreats Wallabies- Scattered around the circular track you will find endangered Brush Tail Rock Wallabies and Yellow-Footed Rock Wallabies in enclosures that replicate the natural habitats of the Rock Wallabies.
There are 48 purpose-built enclosures with huge earthen mounds that incorporate numerous tunnels, dens and caves There is also a Sanctuary Tour available. (See below Optional Additions for more information)
There are many extra options you can pick from to enhance your stay at the Retreat. These include:
Waterfall Springs Retreat is dedicated to wildlife conservation and rehabilitation of both kangaroos and wallabies, and this fantastic and must-do tour takes you on a behind-the-scenes private tour (just you two and Alana or Steve) to the enclosures. The tour takes around one hour and includes a close-up look inside their enclosures, as well as feeding the very adorable Yellow-Footed Rock Wallabies.
Alana was extremely informative and her passionate. The tour was not just informative, it was fun from driving around in the golf buggy to each enclosure to getting to know each rock-wallaby a little better, and watching one cheeky little bugger giving us a pole dance!
The private tour costs $50 per couple and lasts around 1-hour.
The enclosures and feeding opportunities on the Sanctuary Tour
You can hire a golf cart to explore the 4km bush tracks without breaking into a sweat! This fun self-guided experience allows you to experience the retreat's bushland at your own pace. Carts can be hired per stay and can be used as many times as you like. It is $30 per cart for two hours.
This fun and exciting evening tour will take you through lush bushland through environmentally zoned conservation land where you will see breathtaking beautiful light emitted by the glow worms. You will drive your own golf cart through the bush, following Steve or Alana, to the glow worm site. This tour is $75 per couple.
ATV Glow Worm Tour Climb:
This tour will have you and your partner climbing aboard the ATV for an unforgettable night-time adventure through lush environmentally zoned conservation land to the see the breathtakingly beautiful light emitted by the glow worms.
This tour is a must-do! It was the ultimate romantic and mesmerising experience. Steve left us standing in the middle of the natural swimming hole (gumboots on, of course) as we watched our surrounds being lit up with these majestic blue sparkling lights.
There was not a sound to be heard; the night was perfect, almost felt like we were in a fairytale! We held onto each other in the darkness, in a natural waterhole and towering trees surrounding us, as we watched these spectacular little creatures go on with their fascinating business. Stargazing was terrific too! You MUST do this tour. It was just an enchanting and experience.
The tour is $100 per couple.
Day Bed Hire:
Another must-do activity- The Day Bed is situated in the heart of stunning bushland on a secluded clifftop. The luxury bed is completed with pillows, cushions and a blanket and makes a beautiful spot to enjoy the serenity and surrounding nature with no one in sight!
Barbeque Cooked for You (we choose this for both nights) included Steve cooking up a scrumptious feast like no other! We selected our proteins, and he took care of the rest. You have an option to enjoy your cooked barbeque dinner anywhere you like, including your room, dining room or outdoor barbeque area.
