Myself and a group of my closest friends spent the last of 2017 down south to catch up on some quality time and herald in 2018.
About a 15 minute drive out of the town of Margaret River, Waterfall Cottages provides gorgeous abodes perfect for getting away from the big city. Surrounded by picturesque bushland, kangaroos hopping right up to your outside courtyards, this place is a definite must for those wanting to get back in touch with nature.
Home away from home.
Going up!
Room with a view.
Across the road, a small creek of freshwater provides the perfect place to cool off and immerse yourself in the pure tranquillity of Australia's flora and fauna or just sunbathe on the rocks, taking in the spectacular landscape and serenity while working on your tan.
Feel the serenity!
Let your worries float away.
Just over $1000 for a three-night stay, our cottage comfortably slept 6 people, which we all shared accommodation expenses, coming to about $100 each. Entirely self-sufficient with a fridge, shower, wifi, TV and just a small shopping trip into town, we had more than enough supplies to last the weekend.
Not entirely cut off from civilisation, we were still within distance of many of the rare gems Margaret River has to offer; wineries, cheese factory and an array of boutique shopping opportunities, plenty of experiences to share and whittle away the hours.
A couple of our stops worth mentioning, Berry Farm, surrounded by a breathtaking view of vineyards, boasted its own local preserves and liqueurs almost so delectable, it bordered on sinful!
Right next door, Fire-Tail Winery had more than its fair share of ambrosial refreshments with some award-winning wines that you just can't leave without sampling.
Vineyard view.
Pair that with a trip to the Margaret River Cheese Factory, you are guaranteed to find a wheel or five that will go perfect on any cheese platter! I highly suggest trying the Smoky Club Cheddar, words cannot describe how amazing it tastes.
Better still, a short drive took us to Cowaramup, a small town famous for its multitudes of cow statues, delicious fudge and assorted sweets at the Candy Cow, with something guaranteed to tickle anybody's taste buds!
Cow town!
Albeit, our stay was a little too short, time flying as it does when surrounded by special moments and amazing company, our little sojourn down south was full of memories and laughter not to be forgotten and I highly recommend to anybody looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big smoke to definitely try! I am already counting down the days until I get to experience it again.
