Summer is fast approaching. And soon we will be experiencing long endless days, sitting under the fan. When I think of summer I think of a season of water. There are many ways to spend summer in the water, here are 7 great ideas.

**1. Swan River Jet Boat
**

This adventure will get your blood pumping. These jet boats travel at nearly 80 kph and will have your hair flying with 360 degree turns. The jet boats, which operate from the swan river, run every week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and weekends. They only run in summer, so there is still some time to book.

There is also a jet boating business in Fremantle. They are open 7 days from December to February except Christmas day. Their sessions are half an hour long from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

They also run a special autumn program from February to May, and these times are on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm. This includes Public Holidays.
2. Kite surfing

Kite Surfing is becoming very popular along the Perth coast line. There are a number of schools that offer kite surfing lesson. Lessons often include kite surfing gear which means you can get the real sensation of what kite surfing is all about.

If you are worried about being whisked away, I can guarantee from personal experience, that coaches will ensure you have the right kite size and gear. Kite Surfing is actually easier that you think, and with the kite being connected to your hips, it does not require a lot of arm strength to kite surf successfully. It is, a real thrill, and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a little thrill this summer.

For more information about Kite Surfing you can visit West Oz Kite Boarding or Elemental Kite .

3. Swim with dolphins – Rockingham Wild Encounters

For those that have never swum with a dolphin before, this is an experience that will definitely leave you breathless. Dolphins, which are also called mermaids of the sea, grace the Perth waters often. To swim alongside can really turn your summer into one to remember for the rest of your life.

Rockingham Wild Encounters have just re-opened for business, so there is no excuse for you not to put this at the top of the summer to do list. It is based in Safety Bay on the shores of the sensational Shoalwater Island Marine Park, just 45 minutes south of Perth.

Rockingham Wild Encounters supply all snorkelling gear so you can have an amazing experience, from watching a mother dolphins nursing her calf to learning how dolphins use stingrays to catch their dinner. Prices start from $75 for a spectator (up until December 2013 only) and $205 for the dolphin swim.

4. Stand Up Paddle (SUP)

If you not to enthusiastic about the wind, you can always give Stand Up Paddle a go. But make no mistake, while this activity looks easy, it will definitely challenge you core muscles.
Generally Stand Up Paddle is ideal for windless, calm days on the flat surface of the water. However, I have seen some SUP's challenging the waves.

SUP is making a huge impact on the fitness section. Currently there are SUP fitness classes that give you whole body a work out while increasing your fitness. These classes are held at Point Walter with Elemental SUP.

5. Surfing

Surfing is a great sport for the adventure seekers. You get the chance to race down waves, paddle over/under waves, and idle while waiting for a wave. If fact, surfing teaches you more than just surfing the waves! It also teaches you about wave patterns, rips, rocks and all other environmental conditions that come with the ocean.

One of best surf school, and closest to Perth, is the Scarborough Beach Surf School. Adult surf courses of 5 lessons, are $200 and kids lessons courses of 5 lessons are $175.

The Scarborough Beach Surf School has a successful lesson progression course where you start in white water (already crashed waves) and progress to green water (un-crashed waves). Surfing is a whole lot of fun, especially when you get to stand up on your board.

6. Body boarding:

This is an activity that anyone can do. It is a great introduction to all board sports. The best way to tackle this sport is through trial and error. Of course you would need a body board, and you could pick that up at almost any sports or good stores.

With a range of different wave strengths along Perth's coastline, you just need to find an area which will be comfortable for you to trail this activity.

**7. Kayaking
**

Add some excitement to your summer with kayaking. There are multiple locations in and around Perth, including Penguin Island. Penguin Island kayak trips use double kayaks, which makes it easier to paddle. In essence this would be perfect for the whole family. This trip allows you to visit the penguins and able to stop for a picnic. For more information on kayaking trips, visit the Rivergods website .
