Unsurpassed for atmosphere and authenticity with amazing food, Wasai Japanese Kitchen is the perfect Friday night dinner destination.
Situated in Field Street, just off of the busy Gouger Street in the Adelaide CBD, Wasai is one of those rare gems which backs up everything you've heard about it from those super-trendy underground folk who bring you news of what's hot.
The food is beautifully presented and tastes as good as it looks.
If you are heading in on a Friday night and have a hankering for some genuine Japanese food to go with your late night Central Market shopping, be sure to book as the tables will fill fast. You will be greeted by the demurely efficient waitstaff and seated at lacquered tables surrounded by beautiful art and bamboo screens. Small accents such as patterned crockery and small clay pots of soy sauce and spices complete the experience. The drinks list can satisfy your need for the exotic, or allow you a taste of Australia's best wine and beer.
You are served soy beans to start, which are surprisingly salty and super tasty. The staff are happy to recommend sides and entrees for your mains, but the octopus balls are not to be overlooked. Try a share plate for your first visit, and before you finish eating you'll be planning what to order next time.
Oh yum! that dish does look delicious! May I ask what it is? I love Japanese food, but I don't go out and eat it often enough.
I think the map location might be a little off though. :) It's currently pointing to Field Street in McLaren Vale rather than the CBD. I got excited for a moment thinking there was a Japanese restaurant so close to me (at moana)!
Thanks for reading! The image is a chicken dish which went really well with the spices set on the table - I'd hate to mis-spell the Japanese name of the dish but my translation is Awesome Chicken Dish. And thanks for the tip, the map should display properly now!
