What wildlife can you find in Warriparinga? Families are invited to team up with Uni SA scientists and record the diversity of species inhabiting the 3.5 hectare site on the corner of Marion Road and Sturt Road, Bedford Park. Warripari is the Kaurna people's name for the Sturt River. It means 'windy place by the river'.

The free event runs all day on Saturday the 29th October and is open to all ages. Search for birds, mammals, frogs, bats, fish and wild flowers. At night-time there will be Aboriginal astronomy talks and spotlighting for possums. Nature play for kids, art activities, animal displays, cultural activities and tours of the wetlands will all feature.

Be a scientist for a day. Join in the 12 hour Bioblitz event. As well as having lots of fun, you will be contributing to important research. The days' results will be listed on the Atlas of Living Australia , which is an online database of Australian plants and animals.

Warriparinga is home to 21 known species of birds, including kookaburras, lorikeets, rosellas, wattlebirds and waterbirds. Look up in the eucalyptus trees lining the wetlands for bird boxes.

Bioblitz is being organised by Dr Philip Roetman from the University of South Australia. He promises a 'hands-on, educational and exciting experience.'

'It's a chance for families to learn together in a beautiful outdoor setting and play a part in recording a huge diversity of species,' said Dr Roetman.

Warriparinga has lots of open space for picnics, walking trails, a creek, wetlands and art work. It is home to the Living Kaurna Cultural Centre , which exhibits locally hand crafted aboriginal gifts and artwork. It is open on weekdays. Families can bring a picnic or purchase light refreshments, tea and coffee at the event. There is free car parking available.
