A farm with heart right here in Sydney
If you are interested in organic food and/or social enterprise, then Warrah Farm Shop is a must do for you! Warrah Farm Shop is a part of 'Warrah', a Rudolf Steiner organisation which provides services to adults and children with disabilities.
The farm, which is Sydney's only certified biodynamic farm, is situated on the Warrah campus which is a 30 acre site in Dural (with the farm comprising approximately 10 acres of this). Year round, a great variety of produce is grown and harvested on-site, along with organic eggs, to sell in the shop.
Warrah Farm Shops sells a variety of vegetables grown on site
The farm is a great place to take children. They can experience a little bit of country while still in Sydney. Feel free to take the kids for a wander around to see both the fruit and vegetable gardens and the resident chickens and alpacas. We were lucky enough to be given a carrot from the shop to feed the miniature horse when we were there.
Warrah also offers an internship program which runs for 12 weeks through Spring, Summer and Autumn. You can also undertake work experience on the farm with agriculture and horticulture students especially welcome.
So next time you have a morning up your sleeve, take a trip out to beautiful Dural and visit the Warrah Biodynamic Farm Shop. Remember the produce is all organic so will cost more, but know that you are helping both yourself and a wonderful organisation.
The Farm Shop is open Monday to Friday 8.30am – 5.30pm. it is located at 20 Harris Road, Dural, with parking right out the front. Just follow the signs to the 'Farm Shop'.
