Today my partner and I decided to have lunch at Rundle Place , the new, shiny addition to everyone's favourite Rundle Mall. I've heard from friends that 77 (as the food court is called) serves up real tasty meals and I was eager to try some as well. After taking the escalator down to the food court area, I was prepared to browse around and see what the place had to offer. The first shop I saw immediately cemented my decision in what I would order.

Warong means a small-owned family stall that sells basic necessities, food included. It is Malaysian and Indonesian in origin and is a common site in these countries. That means they've got some Malaysian and Indonesian food to satisfy my cravings. The cheerful man behind the counter explained that they have plenty of Southeast Asian dishes (mostly street food) for both dine-in and takeaway.

They have a variety of noodles, rice, grilled and even pratha , which is a type of popular flatbread. I ordered the Nasi Lemak at $9.80 and my partner got the Hainan Chicken Rice at $8.80.

Nasi Lemak is a popular Malaysian dish that can be found at small stalls or hawker centres all over the country. Its name literally translates into 'fatty rice.' It's probably called that because of the fact that the rice is cooked with rich coconut cream. This is probably the dish I missed the most from Malaysia and one that I was eager to devour.

I have to say that Warong delivered a great tasting Nasi Lemak. The rice was fragrant with that unmistakable coconut taste and though the sambal was a tad on the sweet side it was truly a delight to taste the familiar flavours. If you order the Nasi Lemak, you can choose from 3 different types of meat to accompany it : fish, chicken or beef. I asked for chicken and they served me a chicken drumstick in Malaysian curry sauce. I absolutely loved that curry; it honestly tasted of home and brought back memories of eating my grandmother's own Malaysian curry chicken. The nostalgia factor was also deepened when I realised that the Nasi Lemak was served in a small basket wrapped with brown paper; just like back home. It was a fantastic lunch and I finished every bite of it.

My partner's chicken rice was also quite enjoyable; he really loves his chicken rice and he's tried almost every plate of chicken rice in Adelaide. He remarked that they knew the proper way to cut the pieces of chicken so that you didn't have to constantly remove small pieces of bone when eating. Both of us did like the chicken rice, but we felt that the Nasi Lemak stole the show. He especially enjoyed the deep-fried anchovies (ikan bilis in Malay) in the Nasi Lemak.

Warong currently has a Happy Hour promotion going on. No there's no alcohol involved but there are some pretty great deals available from Monday to Thursday between 2.30 to 4.30 pm. A selection of meals are served with a bottle of spring water and priced at only $8.50. I'd love to go back and try some other dishes there. They also have a Hot Box selection where you get 2 choices and finger food with rice or noodles.
