You'll find Waroeng Bernadette Seminyak Bernadette at Seminyak's famous Flea Market on Jalan Kayu Aya (also known as Eat Street). It's right next door to Warung Nia Cooking School
It's open from 11 am until around 10 pm every day for lunch and dinner and you can choose indoor or outdoor seating. There's always a bit of a buzz in the outside area as happy travellers walk nearby and happy diners enjoy choosing from the menu. Inside the atmosphere is more mellow and you are likely to hear quiet jazz tunes playing in the background.
Bernadette's specializes in Indonesia's renowned Rendang Curry, and when you dine here, you'll have the option to select from two distinct variations. You'll be offered samples of each to taste to assist in making your decision. The samples can be found at the door to the restaurant so you'll have the opportunity to taste the food before making your seating choice or even deciding whether to dine here. I strongly suggest you do.
There's a fabulous Happy Hour between 5pm-9pm featuring delicious cocktails for only Rp58.000. At that price you'll be tempted to have more than one.
While sipping a cocktail (my favourite is Lychee Martini - but I have another favourite in the Espresso Martini) you can peruse the menu and read Bernadette's story on the menu cover.
The menu is compact, but it provides a sufficient array of options to cater to everyone, including vegans, vegetarians, and individuals with specific dietary requirements.
Small bites include Tempe and Tahu Strips with a spicy sauce, Indonesian style Corn Fritters and Lumpia Goreng - spring rolls with chicken or veggie options. I love the chicken-filled spring rolls with crispy, light wrappers and a tangy dipping sauce.
Traditional Beef Rendang is Bernadette's signature dish and it is delicious. Serves are very generous and you may find one serve is enough for two people.
Although I do love the Beef Rendang, my preferred option is a Jackfruit Rendang. The flavours are just as satisfying and the serves are just as filling. It's also a perfect choice for those who don't eat meat. Like the beef version, this Vegan Rendang is cooked in coconut milk and home-made spices and served with Cassava Leaf Soup, white rice, temp and tofu and pickled vegetables or rice crackers.
Other menu items include satays, Nasi Goreng, Tuna Curry and Rawon - a tasty beef soup served with rice and crackers.
Leave room for dessert if you can. Choices include Cassava Cake, Coconut Pandan Pancakes and Bernadette's extra special Carrot Cake served with ice cream.
