Warby Cottage is located in Wangaratta, a cathedral city approximately 250km northeast of Melbourne. Wangaratta is believed to be derived from an Indigenous language, meaning "nesting place of cormorants" or "meeting of the waters". Despite being situated on a whooping 27 acre large property, Warby Cottage is conveniently located just a 5 minute drive from Wangaratta's town centre, making it the perfect place for a nice relaxing getaway, without being too far from day-to-day necessities. Warby Cottage is also only a 10 minute drive from nearby Glenrowan, a small town known for being Ned Kelly's last stand - he was captured here in 1880 after a siege and shootout with police.
As mentioned earlier, Warby Cottage is set on a 27 acre property, in a separate cottage on the same premises as the owners' Julia and Darren's home. The only other neighbours you have on this expansive property are a couple of horses! Warby Cottage is a self-contained one bedroom cottage, with a lounge area, kitchen, bedroom, and ensuite bathroom. There is private undercover parking behind the cottage, with enough space for 2 cars. Warby Cottage can house up to 3 people, and dogs are welcome as it is a farm stay property - although dogs are requested to remain on leash unless inside the cottage.
Warby Cottage provides guests with spectacular views looking towards the Ovens and Kiewa Valleys, and makes for a great spot to watch both sunrise or sunset without leaving the comfort of your 'home' (for the duration of your visit anyway)!
I love Warby Cottage already, at least from the outside! But is the inside of Warby Cottage as good as how it looks from the outside?
It sure is - Warby Cottage is not just a pretty face! The bedroom has a queen size bed and ensuite bathroom, with all linen and towels provided - there are also electric blankets and extra pillows available should you require them. For your convenience, bedside lamps and an alarm clock is also provided.
The bathroom is modern and comfortable, with all bath products (soap, conditioning shampoo and body lotion) provided to guests. In addition to daily household supplies for cleaning, there are also extra supplies of bath products available under the sink should you run out during your stay! The bath products provided are from Natural Evolution, products that are not only recyclable, but also biodegradable.
The kitchen at Warby Cottage is fully equipped, with a fridge, stove, oven, microwave, kettle, and toaster. There is also a small dining table, perfect for an intimate meal. A continental breakfast is provided for guests, included in the price of your stay, with bread (white and raisin), fruit, a selection of cereals, and toasted fruit muesli, in addition to fresh milk, juice, and condiments provided in the fridge. For those craving a warm drink, there are packets of tea and coffee available. The kitchen has all the utensils you need, although it is requested that guests clean up after themselves and leave the kitchen in the same condition as they found it upon check in - cleaning tools can be found under the sink.
The lounge area is bright and spacious, complete with a relaxing sofa and arm chairs. There is also a TV and DVD player in the lounge area, alongside a wide selection of books and DVDs. In addition, Warby Cottage has an iPod docking station, should you want to listen to music during your stay. For those travelling with young ones, Julia and Darren also have a portacot and high chair available upon request. Note: Although there is no WiFi available at Warby Cottage, I was able to get really good 4G cell reception so this was not an issue for me.
Is there anything else worth noting about Warby Cottage?
I can't emphasise enough just how beautiful the property is - it's well worth taking a walk around the area, even if you don't have a dog with you. Check out the abundance of lush green trees, which perfectly contrast the brightly coloured flowers the adorn the place.
Views aside and onto more logistical issues, don't fret if you don't think you can remember all the information about Warby Cottage, because Julia and Darren have kindly provided an information pack with everything you need to know about the place. They've also kindly provided a stack of maps of the local area, in addition to a range of takeaway and delivery menus if you decide not to cook. Note: Payment needs to be made at least a week before check in through direct bank deposit (Warby Cottage will email you after you book your stay), or cash on the day (no EFTPOS facilities available).
What was your experience of Warby Cottage, and would you stay here again?
From the second we laid our eyes on Warby Cottage, we knew we loved it! I obviously didn't look too closely at the place when I booked it, because I did not know until I stepped inside that I had booked a whole cottage to myself and Eddy. I had (incorrectly) assumed that I'd booked a single room in a cottage, because of how cheap the price was. From when I booked to when I paid to when I stayed, I had no issues whatsoever, and had all my questions answered in an efficient and timely manner - customer service is not taken lightly here at Warby Cottage! One example of this is when I started reading a book provided by Warby Cottage and couldn't put it down (I knew I had to finish it), I texted Darren asking if I could buy the book off him, but he said he would give it to me for free - thank you so much!
Eddy and I got way more than we initially anticipated and bargained for, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our one night in Wangaratta. From the peace and quiet of the massive property just minutes away from the town centre (while knowing that should you need anything, Julia and Darren are just next door), to the picture perfect view of the surrounding country, Warby Cottage is a great place to stay in Wangaratta whether you're a small family, couple, or a single traveller like me. Thanks so much for having us, we can't stress how much we enjoyed our stay, and we will definitely be recommending Warby Cottage to all our friends and family!
