Is it a bar, cafe, vegetarian or organic?
It's a cafe, a smoothie bar, a juice bar, vegetarian and organic. Waratah Organics, the brainchild of Lisa and Adam, two natural therapists with a passion for preparing, eating and serving wholesome organic food. They couldn't find what they wanted when they fancied eating out, so they created their own.
Lisa, Adam and staff take the time to share their nutritional knowledge with their customers. They know why the ingredients are good for you and how they benefit your body. They can tell you why the brown rice is infused with turmeric and why turmeric is good for you. Their philosophy of food is about family, celebration and ritual. They view sitting together to enjoy a meal as a time to connect and there is plenty of time and space for that in the cafe. Free Wi-Fi is available too.
There's daily soup for $8, takeaway $4 and lunches are $12 or $15 a plate or $10 takeaway if you're on the go. Currently one hot lunch meal is served with two seasonal salads each day. You'll find nourishing combinations like Polenta with Stacked Roast Veggies; Kidney Bean Burger served with Coconut; Carrot and Beetroot and Kale salads; Thai Chickpea Curry with Rice and Salads; and Golden Dahl with Rainbow Quinoa or Brown Rice.
Meals, salads, cakes and sweets are handmade daily on the premises and have a nurturing and comforting home cooked feel. All ingredients are sourced locally using seasonal produce. Their cake selection is ever expanding with temptations named, Raw Red Velvet Cake, Orange Blueberry Choc Brownie and Nut Free Lemon Love. The food is packed with nutrition and the staff cook and prepare it with love.
Jasper Fair Trade coffee 'Juliet' is served up with the milk of your choice, plus a range of herbal teas. My favourite at the moment is the Byron Bay Chai. It's got a great hit of spice and I match this up with a protein packed Bliss Ball or cake.
Like their Facebook page for regular posts on weekly specials and daily lunches. Weekends break away from the Monday to Friday routine with Buckwheat Pancakes with Caramel Sauce and cream; Smashed Avo with Homemade Almond Feta, Pepitas and Lemon; and Spanish Baked Tofu or Eggs.
Adam and Lisa have big plans to expand with the option to host larger groups and courtyard dining. What better excuse than to regular drop in for some great food and watch how Waratah Organics continues to grow.
