Experience Indigenous culture with WARAMI

2020 marks the second season of WARAMI, an exciting festival celebrating and commemorating Indigenous culture in Parramatta from 26 May to 5 July.

For over 60,000 years the Burramattagal people have called Parramatta home. WARAMI recognises and celebrates their continued connection to the land and community. Parramatta always was and always will be a gathering place.

This year's vibrant festival program, which commemorates National Sorry Day, National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC, is FREE and now available online!

Immerse yourself in Indigenous art, music, culture, language and dance through a unique series of fun, educational and interactive online activities.

2020 highlights include:

  • Read online stories from past and present Stolen Generations; find ways to support survivors, families and communities; and access educational resources.

  • Share a photo demonstrating your connection to land with a 'Through your 'Maya (eye)' Photo Competition – WIN!

  • View a virtual Darug welcome and smoking ceremony and find out the history behind the custom.

  • Immerse yourself in storytelling sessions detailing three Aboriginal elders experiences in the Kinchela Boys Home.

  • Get creative with children's arts and crafts including Draug eSheet, and Dreamtime colouring in eBook.

  • Take a virtual Aboriginal Cultural Walk through the world heritage listed Parramatta Park.

  • Join in dance sessions online with the Jannawi Dance Clan.

  • Learn about Darug culture with language, art and culture video sessions.

  • PLUS don't miss WARAMI Live! - A FREE online concert showcasing the best of Sydney's Indigenous live music scene. Hosted by comedian Sean Choolburra, the lineup features Indigenous artists and dance groups from Burramatta NAIDOC, including Bow and Arrow (electro-soul duo), Maddi Lyn (country singer/songwriter), Barkaa, Evie J Willie (soul singer/songwriter), DJ Naian,and more!
