If you're visiting Queenstown or Wanaka in Summer, don't miss the Wanaka Lavender Farm .



I had fairly low expectations before I went. I assumed it was just the one small lavender field with the purple door that you see all over Instagram.

It was so much better than I expected. There are multiple lavender fields, other (non-lavender) gardens, farm animals, a lovely cafe, a cute lavender shop and lots of Instagrammable backdrops everywhere.

It's one of the best lavender fields I've ever been to.

It's also run by a local Wanaka family, so it's a great way to support local businesses.



Make sure you visit between December to February, when the lavender is in bloom. Go early in the mornings if you want to miss the crowds. Avoid the Christmas school holidays when Queenstown and Wanaka are very busy.

The is open 7 days a week. The hours are price varies based on whether it's lavender season. During lavender season, it's $10 for adults, $5 for kids (5-15 years) and free for kids under 5. Outside lavender season, it's $5 for adults, $2 for kids and free for under 5s.

Location: 36 Morris Road, Wanaka 9382. It's just outside Wanaka in the countryside so you'll need a car to drive there. There's no public transport.
