Waltz is an important dance within the realms of ballroom dancing. Whether it is for fun or for your wedding day, there are class options available to you in Sydney to learn. Not only is dancing great exercise, but you can also meet many wonderful people. A skill like waltzing and even ballroom dancing in general is something you'll learn for life and it'll come in handy in the most surprising of moments.

Fandango Dance in Maroubra offers adult partnered dance ballroom classes which include the waltz. Also taught are foxtrot, quickstep, tango and Viennese waltz in ballroom styles. There are classes for absolute beginners and continuing dancers. Wedding dance classes are offered too, as well as semi-private lessons which are limited to three couples per class.

If you're looking for a provider which is more specialised in ballroom dancing and perhaps closer to the city, Broadway Ballroom might be the studio for you. You can even get private lessons if you wish and the convenient city location is a definite advantage. The group classes are scheduled in three different categories – beginners, intermediate and open on Wednesday nights. Each course goes for eight weeks and is $120 for an adult or $100 for a concession. You are not required to bring a partner and there are a maximum of 20 people per class.

Located in Ryde is the June and Kay dance school which also offers waltz classes, in addition to other ballroom styles including cha-cha-cha, jive, rumba, samba, barn dancing including disco, old time, progressive cha-cha-cha and the rhythm barn dance. Different types of waltzes are on offer too, such as the Emmerdale waltz, Lucille waltz, twilight waltz, vanity waltz and even the silver waltz. There are classes also available in Willoughby. The Wednesday evenings at Ryde are structured in a way that there are beginners dance classes, intermediate dance classes and then a night of social dancing until 11pm. This is a great opportunity to practice your newly gained skills and interact with other people interested in dancing.

If you're a bit more on the serious side about waltzing, for a reason such as a wedding for example, you might wish to consider some private lessons with Terry Fitzgerald who has more than 25 years of experience in adult education, but specifically dance teaching. The Sydney Dancing School aims to have even beginners be able to dance beautifully on their wedding day, meaning that there is no embarrassment during bridal dances. Located in Surry Hills, hours are by appointment. Given the extensive experience of this school, it's important to book as early as possible as they might not have room if you try and learn last minute.

As evidenced, there are lots of options available for those wishing to learn the waltz in Sydney. When looking for classes, try to ensure that you can see the word "waltz" specifically, as many schools offer it under the general umbrella of ballroom dancing. I personally love the waltz and the rumba of all ballroom dancing styles as they feel a lot more sophisticated and elegant. If anyone has a better suggestion for waltz classes, please let us know. Perhaps someone has had recent experiences with one of the aforementioned dance schools, especially with waltz. We look forward to your feedback.
