Don't we all love a feelgood story and even better when it includes decadent treats for you? With all the lockdown, it is great to support local makers and producers and Wallingtons Rural WRG in Wallington (near Ocean Grove and Drysdale), has introduced an entire local marketplace section, just to support the local makers and producers.
The best part of this is that you get to have the most delicious home-made and homegrown produce available.

Why?
Around a staff meeting, the owners of this business realised that local people had become heavily reliant on the larger chain store supermarkets and were often forgetting to support the local growers and producers. They felt that they had a part to play in this as they were purchasing a large number of their items from big companies.
With COVID-19 creating so much hardship around local makers that relied heavily on markets for their income, they realised they had a solution they could play in both supporting the local makers and supplying some of the best quality produce to the Bellerine Peninsula.

Thus the WRG local marketplace was conceived and created and is now open for all to come and enjoy. Going back to comfortable times, where we used to pop in and support the local butcher, baker, soap-maker, WRG now brings this comfort shopping back to you and your local community.

What's on offer this week?
Lately, there has been a lot of truss tomatoes that taste like sunshine, they are so juicy and delicious that we have yet to make it home without some of them being eaten on the drive.

Wallingtons is known as a one-stop-shop for all of your gardening, beer brewing and animal needs. In wanting to support the local community, they have introduced many new delights in the produce market into this large store.

Supporting local producers. The produce is guaranteed to be handmade, hand-harvested, hand-collected or hand created from the local manufacturers.

They have a beautiful range of artisan soaps, some of which look almost too pretty to use in the unique shapes of gemstones, fruits and a really fun tray of eggs soaps sold in an egg carton. The eggs soaps are only $4 and all made with olive oil and lovely skin-nourishing properties. There are some fun soaps for children containing little toy creatures, so you will have no trouble getting them into the bath. They contain no SLS or SLES, no palm oil and the only animals they are tested on are the maker's pets.

If you are staying down on the Peninsula for a bit of a holiday, imagine how indulgent it would be in the caravan showers to have these beautiful soaps made with pure essential oils (or unscented if you prefer). There is a range of activated charcoal and goats milk for sensitive skin also.

Not to forget about your furry friends, along with all of the huge array of treats and foods for your pets in the new marketplace section there is pet shampoo and animal balms and salves.

As you first enter the store turning left, there is a lovely display of beautiful olive oils fresh from the local groves around the Bellerine Peninsula. Some fresh olives and handmade seasonings including delicious salts, jams, pickles and more.

A lovely array of beautiful fresh fruit and vegetables hand collected from the local farms. I often purchase some of the most amazing tomatoes and mushrooms, the flavours reminiscent of how fruit and vegetables used to taste when I was a little girl, coming directly from my grandmother's garden.

In the refrigerated section, there is gourmet butter, freshly squeezed juices in glass bottles, lemon/passionfruit/orange curd and every week they are introducing new local makers' products, ensuring there is always something delicious, fresh and new for you to try.

Perhaps make it a weekly special to pop in, support one of the local makers and try something really new and delicious for yourself.

However, it's not only food, but also a lovely selection of warm ugg boots and woollen slippers. Kits for you to make your own soap, shampoo bars, bathing salts Indulgent boxes that contain a little sample of many different products for just $15. Anti-bacterial spray and wipe concentrates and purse kits for just $2.50. Liquid soap and Castiel soap ready for you to add your own colours and fragrances to if you desire, and more stock arriving daily from local makers.
