Escape the city and head to the township of Benalla in northeast Victoria for a three day art festival. One of Australia's largest street art festival, from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 April 2019 - 7am to 10pm each day, this festival is giving the Melbourne street art scene a run for its money. One of the most significant, celebrated street art event in the country, due to Benalla's relatively small geographical size, the festival creates an all-encompassing ambience that enriches the community and only adds to the already colourful town of Benalla. A heady mixture of art and entertainment, as you can see from the lineup below, it's all happening on the Benalla foreshore for the weekend at the Wall to Wall Festival. Check out the key areas on the map to find your favourite, or see where all artists are located in the township. The artists lineup is phenomenal as always, and they're creating a visual extravaganza that cannot be missed! With old and new walls lit up at night for the first time, you can soak up the incredible atmosphere well into the night. Feast your eyes on all Benalla has to offer and share your images at #walltowallfestival and #enjoybenalla
Friday is live painting all day from 10am. What an amazing opportunity that is, as it's not always that you get to see a street artist in action. The Festival launches its 5th instalment at 6pm in an official opening at Benalla Art Gallery. Why not check out the Exhibitions. The live painting continues on Saturday and Sunday, with guided street art tours, artist talks, VR Cinema sessions, Goorambat Bus Tours and more happening over the weekend.
The Hub is the meeting place for all things Wall to Wall with a diverse range of kids activities, interactive workshops, food trucks and bars. The Merchandise Tent (under Benalla Library) is where you'll find your Wall to Wall fashion needs. The Goorambat Bus Tours depart from Benalla Senior Citizen Hall (18 Fawckner Dr, Benalla) for a gold coin donation approximately every 2 hours from 10am on Sat & Sun until 2pm (3 runs each day) with an extra run at 6.30pm on Saturday.
Check out the whole program so as not to miss out on all that's going on. Especially the Silo Art at Benalla's neighbouring town Goorambat, 15 mins away where Dvate is completing his second silo artwork within the town. Goorambat Uniting Church is also where you'll find Adnate's artwork inside the church. If the atmosphere brings the artist out in you, join the Paint by Numbers Community Event. No experience or artistic skill required to get your hands dirty helping to create a permanent, large scale mural under the guidance of a street artist.
Besides the 60 odd walls of street art on display, this year you'll enjoy a festival first; a Kingspray Virtual Reality Painting with a cutting-edge live graffiti simulator. Key artists will don the VR headset and virtual spray can, and perform live as it's streamed to a large projector screen for all to see. It's all happening at Wall to Wall. Don't miss it!
