The history book of the iconic Centennial Park in Sydney comes to live with a history tour led by one of the top public history experts. Entitled "The People's Park: Centennial Park A History", this book is the authoritative story of 125 year old Parklands. It tells a rich story about one of the best public parks in the world, from its humble beginnings to become one of the most important public spaces in Australia.

As one of the 125th anniversary programmes, the Parkland has organised a rare 2-hour walking tour led by Professor Paul Ashton at $25 per person. Paul is the Professor of Public History at UTS and Co-Director of the Australian Centre for Public History and the Centre for Creative Practice and cultural Economy. He has researched areas of public history, planning history, community history, Australian History, heritage and Sydney's history in addition to teaching public and cultural history over his career. He has also written books such as 'Australian History Now' which is a historiographical survey of Australian history over the last 50 years, and [Locating Suburbia: Memory, Place, Creativity' is a testament to the range and complexity of 21st century responses to city suburbs predominantly in Sydney.

Drawing from his 25 years of research for the book, Paul will bring the history of Centennial Parklands to life as he shares the stories and secrets behind the monuments, people and events over 125 years of the Parkland's existence. You will also learn about the struggles and successes that helped the Parklands become one of the world's great public urban parks. You will never view Centennial Park in the same way again after this tour. The walk concludes with coffee and cake at CP Dining Cafe.
