The John Mead Dance Company presents its 10th Anniversary Performance with Walkabout, a journey toward self-discovery.
This original contemporary dance is choreographed by John Mead, JMDC's Artistic Director. It features a cast of 7 talented Singaporean dancers who will enthrall audiences with their full-length dance performance.
The choreographer draws insightful parallels between the ancient Aboriginal Walkabout ritual and the need for people to embark on a journey toward awareness, acceptance and celebration of self in the current world. Walkabout is a coming of age ritual where young adolescent boys spend six months alone in the wild and learn how to survive as a pathway for reaching maturity. JMDC's Walkabout is about the discovery of self, through the vicissitudes of the struggle for survival.
JMDC is a Singapore-based professional dance company founded by John Mead and Ms. Lim Mei Chian in 2005. The dance company strives to bring a rich artistic experiences to the Asian region and beyond through high quality dance productions, community events, professional training programmes and touring.
John lives in Singapore for the past twelve years. He has 40 years of international professional work with major ballet and contemporary companies in Canada, China, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey and the United States.
