The event raises much needed funds and awareness for relief projects that help reduce the long hours women and young girls in developing countries spend simply looking for clean water, firewood and food.
The kick-off event takes place in East Melbourne's Fitzroy Gardens and participants can choose to take a lap of the garden which is just under 2kms or you can set yourself a challenge and walk more laps, depending on your ability.

From there, Walk in Her Shoes is a week-long challenge taking place from March 8-14 and is CARE Australia's biggest fundraising appeal. Thousands in Australia will come together to assist in raising more than $1 million for women, girls and their communities to have better access to clean drinking water and combat global poverty. Participants can walk either 25km, 50km or 100km over the course of the week. Register online by setting up your fundraising page here.
CARE works at a grass-roots level with communities to empower them to create positive change in their own lives and 89 cents of every dollar CARE spends goes towards their overseas programs - it's a great cause.
Help them kick off this week long event by kick-starting your walk. Meeting point is at 9am at Lawn 19, Fitzroy Gardens. Everyone is welcome, just look out for the Walk in Her Shoes banners!
